Book Review: How Parking Enforcement Stole My Soul by Benjamin Friedrich
How Parking Enforcement Stole My Soul
By: Benjamin Friedrich
My Review:
Oh my gosh! Have you ever watched the show “Parking Wars”? It is one of guilty pleasures because I marvel at just how idiotic people can be – and boy, can they argue!?
The book, “How Parking Enforcement Stole My Soul”, by author Benjamin Friedrich, is such a funny, yet first hand account of what it took to perform a parking enforcement job.
In this book, you follow Ben as he tries to find gainful employment – a full time job that he can stick with. He first becomes a fire fighter, but since it was a seasonal job, he decides to apply for a variety of law enforcement positions. In the mean time, he still needs to make some money, so he takes a job as a parking enforcement officer – and this is where the story becomes so funny and interesting.
He chronicles the good, the bad and the ugly of performing the job, including the need to wear a bulletproof and stab-proof vest to work! You watch as he figures out when to argue an issue with an offender and how he decides that maybe this fight isn’t worth the danger it could involve. Even though it was a taxing job, he was very good at it and when he wanted to leave, he was asked to stay – he issued more than 1,000 citations during his first six months.
As previously stated, the book is funny, really funny in some parts, but it is also an account of how one person is trying to find his way and during his journey, he learns life changing lessons.
About the Author:
Ben was born and raised in California. He has already worn several hats during his short life. He started out as a firefighter because he loved to help people. You would find him racing into burning buildings, comforting crying children, and pulling victims from car wrecks. He was a hero.Somewhere along the way his life took a wrong turn. He accepted a job offer and started a new life. As a parking cop. Over the following several years he became bitter and jaded from his dealings with fellow parking officers and members of the public. The pay was good, but the job was slowly destroying Ben’s soul.He remembered how things used to be. The easy smiles, the sunshine. He wanted out. His libertarian sentiments were growing stronger, slowly he became a limited government, pro individual freedom parking cop living a lie.Ben left that life behind. He now lives out in the country, recovering. Slowly salvaging what remains and trying to become the great guy that a great girl somewhere could love.
He decided to write a book about his experiences as a parking enforcement officer. It’s now available as an Amazon exclusive Kindle eBook. Download How Parking Enforcement Stole My Soul today!
